Roger notched up a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory against Mardy Fish at the Cincinnati Masters and will now play his friend and Olympic doubles partner Stanislas Wawrinka.
“Playing an American here in America, it’s always special. It was pretty straightforward. Whoever was going to be more aggressive, serve more consistent, and then play maybe a tiny bit better from the baseline was probably going to win. I’m happy I was that guy tonight.”
Roger showed an excellent tennis-display, breaking Fish on the first occasion with three impressive winners. He swiped his entire serves without any problems, winning 93% of the points on his first serve. He secured one more break in the last game of the set to clearly book it 6-3. Fish raised his level of play in the second set, but Roger was finally able to click the set in the tie-break.
Next up is Stanislas Wawrinka who sent Milos Raonic home in three sets. Roger holds a 10-1 record against Stan.
